A spokesperson for Northern Education Trust said:

‘High expectations of behaviour are essential in ensuring that all children receive the best education possible. The Trust acknowledges that the academy experienced a temporary increase in short term exclusions in 2017/18. Our aspirations, and increased emphasis on securing good behaviour, mean that the academy is now a safe and vibrant learning community, and exclusions have reduced this year by more than 70%. Students at Red House overwhelmingly report that they feel safer, learn more than they used to, and have a better chance of succeeding in school then they did before. As a trust, we are completely committed to sustaining this improvement for our students.

In 2017/18, there were no permanent exclusions in Year 11 at Red House Academy. We are proud of our efforts to support the most vulnerable and this is evidenced by the fact that 41% of the students who received an exclusion in 2018-19 actually achieved a standard pass in maths and English. Prior to our changes being implemented, the whole school pass rate for all students was just 32%. The whole school pass rate is now 58% making Red House one of the most improved schools in the country’.
